I find the textural quality of paint an exciting element of painting as much as design, composition, and color. I use a palette knife for the texture and energy it brings to the canvas. Evoking an emotional response to a 'sense of place' is a great thrill for me.
I began 'testing the waters' of knife painting six years ago in a 'challenge' with a fellow painter. Two years ago I started seeking ways to bring more texture into my work. First I went through a variety of brushes, round brushes were helpful in this effort. But I kept returning to 'playing with knives'. Strong composition is my first priority, but the texture is part of the thrill of painting for me!
I'm an associate member of Oil Painters of America and the Connecticut Plein Air Painter Society.
