Artist Statement:

My work is inspired by the natural world, whether the medium I choose is watercolor, oil or pastel. Like the California Impressionists, the Hudson Valley painters and Tonalists who have inspired me, I am most interested in capturing the quality of light as it defines a landscape, a still life, botanical subject or portrait. I make a practice of painting daily, either in the California landscape or in studio.



Biographic Information:

It’s been said that throughout our lifetime we’ll have multiple careers, and that we should be prepared to continually learn and grow and reinvent ourselves. This has been true throughout my work life, and continues in my ongoing development as a painter.

My childhood was filled with art lessons and individual projects in painting and drawing. But words became my career as I worked as a copywriter and creative director for Los Angeles advertising agencies. I worked with outstanding art directors and continued to learn design and marketing through post-graduate studies. In every spare moment I sketched and painted, primarily in watercolor.

In search of longer-form projects and more creative challenges, I joined my husband in forming an Emmy award-winning film and video production company. Our client list included ABC News 20/20 and a long list of broadcast and corporate clients. One of my most memorable projects was as a field artist and photojournalist for an archaeological expedition in Egypt.

When the digital revolution brought art to the desktop, I began producing graphics for our video projects and wrote an aftermarket book on Photoshop.

My passion for art has come full circle as today, with our family grown, I can spend more time painting using traditional media. And finally, I have time to show my work and to compete as I’ve always wanted to. With every landscape, still life or portrait I begin, I appreciate each project, experience and teacher that has brought me to this satisfying and productive time of my creative life.
